Original kunstværksbeskrivelse som leveret fra museet (© Copyright - Belvedere - Belvedere)

The portrait shows Rudolf Steindl (13.04.1871 Vienna 09.14.1953 Vienna), the younger with Koloman Moser's sister Leopoldine (11.06.1877 Vienna - 07.09.1957 Vienna) was married. From 1888 Steindl staff was in the k. k. Court and State Printers, where he was until his retirement in the interwar period last employed as "Oberkontrollor the State Printing". Moser is his brother-in strict frontal view in center sitting with a book in hand. The image is determined by the muted color application in pasty and broad brushwork. The modeling of the body appears arranged in the surface, the contour surface generates the stylization. The chair with a high back in the background that at Moser's chair from 1902 the company Prague Rudniker reminded, can be seen as a reference to the geometric tendencies of Viennese Modernism. On the left side Moser emphasized by the vertical black stripes effectively the hierarchical nature of the portrait, which he characterizes the sitter as intellectuals. characterized at the same time it breaks the strict Symmetrical of image organization and generates voltage. Especially the emphasis on big hands refers to Moser's confrontation with the expressionist portraits of Egon Schiele (1890-1918) as the 1910 painted Portrait of the publisher Eduard Kosmack. In his very modern interpretation of a traditional form succeeds Moser to give an individual and psychological component to the sitter. [Stefan Üner, 2016]
