Much of the painted decoration of the Saint-Sulpice church was the subject of orders to many artists between 1820 and 1880. The program included the decorative fresco or oil paint on plaster of the transept, walls and vaults of the chapels. Entrusted to renowned artists such as Eugène Delacroix, Abel de Pujol, Victor Mottez, martin drolling François Heim, Auguste Glaize, etc., this set painted remains one of the finest made in Paris in the nineteenth siècle.Pichon painted the two walls of the Saint Charles Borromeo and the vault; the complex was completed in 1867.
