Several portraits of the poet Alexis Piron are known and confirm the identification carried inside the frame. The costume worn by the model is the portrait around 1760.

Within the framework is an old handwritten inscription: "Mr. Piron, poet / Nattier not." The famous portrait practiced perhaps the miniature, but a lack of information on this. It is possible that this "Portrait of Alexis Piron" was made from a picture of Nattier because the similarity of style with the work of this artist is notable.
